Afra Bin Dhaher is an Emirati visual artist and communication designer based in Dubai. Her diverse practice involves informing viewers, translating experiences and portraying emotions. In her [ work ], she enjoys adding elements of surprise that invite the viewer to question and engage with the work leaving them either looking for an answer, a change of mind or even with a sense of excitement. After graduating with a BSc in Visual Communication from the American University of Sharjah in 2012, she went on to continue her art and design practice exhibiting locally and internationally. She is the recipient of several awards including the first place in the 2012 Hamdan International Photography Awards, and Sheikha Manal’s Young Artist Award in 2010. In 2016, she had her first solo show titled [ Hymns to a Sleeper ] under Tashkeel. The themes within her work examine audible realms of the human psyche, memory as a capricious instrument and performance without a live body.
